Extreme Makeover: Kitchen Shelves Edition

BEFORE

These were our kitchen shelves: pretty roomy but such a pain to get to anything that wasn't in the very front.

...uh, unless you're a cat.

So we bought some shelves...a lot of shelves...17" Sliding Cabinet Organizers to be exact.

BUT they require an 18" opening (our cabinets allow for 17 3/4"). I'm not kidding it's THAT CLOSE but no way would they fit.

So my handy husband procured a dremel (I'm not even sure how to spell that, much less use one) and...

I hope you are hearing the sound of the heavens parting, because that's what I heard when I came home from work the next day:

He dremeled and sawed and drilled and installed his little heart out.

And now....

SHELVES! Glorious Useful Shelves!!

Feel free to stop by and admire anytime. We still are.

Thanks Whit!

Whitney forwarded me a copy of our group pic from the aquarium, so I'm posting it as promised.

Mostly for my mom ;) Gotta love that Okie Squint. And the baby dino.

Just to clarify: I do know that we are sitting on an alligator...
I was referring to the baby Grant dino. Thanks, Madre.

Spring Break, Day Two

Saturday morning we headed up to the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks to meet up with the Rogers Family: my cousin Whitney, her husband Jody and their scene-stealing 11 month old, Grant.

Jody got the only group pic on his camera,
so I'll have to beg for a copy to post.

Chris taught Madisyn the license plate state game, so that occupied the car time there and back; I think they spotted 28 with a couple of international plates, too, so it was a pretty successful hunt considering we didn't leave the Sooner State.

Keeping track of The Official List

The Aquarium was totally worth the trip; they have several really cool hands-on exhibits like turtle and sting ray feedings,

petting tanks,

all sorts of ancient and enormous Creatures of the Deep,

and the World's Largest Fishing Lure! The Excitement!!

Of course, there was my worst nightmare THE SHARK TUNNEL. I just kept taking pictures and tried to not look around too much.

Entering the Tunnel of Doom
These two look waaaay too excited to be in here.
Look, one is swimming over Emily!
Madisyn recently read a book about sharks and had lots of interesting facts to share; I was just trying to not pass out...or start crying like the three year old in front of us.

When we got back to E-town, we spent the evening eating ice cream and watching TV (Mandy, if you're reading...just kidding about the ice cream part ;) ) and I might have fallen asleep on the sofa way before everyone else. All in all, it was a great day. We have one more morning with Maddy and then have to turn her over to her grandparents; we'll definitely miss having her sweet spirit and enthusiasm around.

Spring Break, Day One

This weekend will probably be as much spring break as I will get, but I am enjoying every minute of it. We have had the greatest weekend, so let's get to it, shall we?

Friday after school we picked up Madisyn, my best friend Mandy's daughter (and my god-daughter) to spend the weekend with us while her parents have their own spring break trip. She is such a delight and we have truly enjoyed our time with her. That evening, we met the fam at Louie's for Dad's birthday and then headed out to the Mahan Ranch to meet their newest member, Matthew Charles Parker Mahan:

Big Sister Esther Violet loved the cupcakes from my dad's birthday earlier in the evening...
And their oldest Malachi is truly Matt's son:
Malachi Cavino Mahan, circa 2009
Matthew Cavino Mahan, circa 1999
Matt (one of my bridesmaids in our wedding) and his wife Lenne have recently moved back to Oklahoma after spending several years on both coasts and we could not be more excited about getting to spend more time with them and their ever-growing brood!

On to Day Two...

"Adam's Glory"
aka "The Muskrat"
Apparently in the world of soccer ref-ing, a horseshoe mustache is not professional attire, so it had to go...but we'll always remember The Muskrat.

The Proof

This is my obligatory I-have-the-World's-Greatest-Husband post, but I offer this evidence:

When I got home from work, there was an after-work snack and a new tshirt waiting for me!

I mean, does it get any better than this???

Mmmmmm, key lime-y....

Sugar Free Allstars' Wedding Weekend Tour

That's right, 2 weddings in less then 24 hours, with the first in Kansas City and the second in Edmond. We are professionals, folks.

SFA played Saturday night in Kansas City for our good friends Brooke & Tim's wedding and it was a dance party all night long. Brooke and Tim both have musical families and friends and SFA was joined throughout the night by many talented musicians. This is the first jam session: Chris with 3 percussionists, including Brooke's dad and Tim's bandmate.

I failed to take any pictures at the second wedding on Sunday evening (oopsy). Our friends and nearly-neighbors Andy and Heather tied the knot at the Jazz Lab. Andy was the original drummer for SFA so he joined the band for several songs. Heather and other friends joined in throughout the evening and it was another evening long dance party.

I told Chris I was little jealous we couldn't have had Sugar Free play our reception all night because it was so much fun, but I was lucky enough to be included in all of this weekend's festivities. So if anyone is looking for a funky band that knows how to get a party going, I can definitely recommend one...

Valentine's Day with Boom and Mimi

Wiser and I got to spend our Valentines Day with Hazel Eve and she showed us what a busy schedule a 15 month old keeps. In just two hours, we read a LOT of books...

played Hide and Seek...

watched TV and Hazel found a new lounge chair...

cared for her babydolls and stuffed animals...checked on her puppy Abe...picked up her toys and 'vacuumed' so there wouldn't be a mess when Mom & Dad got home...

WHEW! Of course, it wouldn't be Valentine's Day without lots of hugs for everyone.

For dinner, we joined Hazel and her parents for some delicious Mexican food and then we went back to their house to watch a movie. We're like an old married couple already. How cool.

Editor's Note: I guess I'm going to have to teach Wiser how to use the new camera so I get to be in pictures, too.

I extended the time that our pictures are available to order (mostly for parents and grandparents...) but feel free to browse through them if you haven't already. You might even find one of yourself; Candi got a lot of great crowd shots at the wedding and reception.

The bridal session...

And our engagement pics (still some of my favorites)...

I can't say it enough: an incredible photographer is THE splurge to make if you allow yourself one. I feel like I was able to truly experience our wedding day for the first time when I got to see the pictures because the actual day was such a haze.

To World Peace.

I can't believe I couldn't find this on a single channel tonight.

I know I haven't posted anything in a while...I think by the end of the ice week, everyone was running out of posting ideas...

I have been enjoying this video on a pretty much daily basis so I thought I would share it, just because it makes me laugh. Who can't use a funny dog video to start their day?

(PS: his name is Stains.)

7-11 kind of day.

(it's ICEE! Get it?! Ok, sorry...)

But you should come hang out with us.

We've got cupcakes!
We've got fire!
And everyone loves the Snuggie!
This is what I found when I poked my head around the corner
because it had gotten too quiet in the living room...

Later when he saw the picture he said, "Huh, that looks dangerous." Uh, no doy!

We need to return to our regularly-scheduled programming before we smoke ourselves out or break a limb. But at least we have stereo sound for the Bedlam game...
